I am an Associate Professor in Translation Studies at the University of Leeds.
My research revolves around subtitling as I am interested in investigating the translation of products that make meaning through visual & auditory, verbal & nonverbal elements and the challenges they bring to translation practice and theory. My research revolves around subtitling as I am interested in investigating the translation of products that make meaning through visual & auditory, verbal & nonverbal elements and the challenges they bring to translation practice and theory. I am particularly interested in collecting empirical data on how subtitled products are received and perceived by viewers to better understand:
- how viewers make meaning when watching an audiovisual product,
- the impact of current translation strategies in viewers' interpretation and perception of the subtitled products
- and the possibilities brought by alternative subtitling strategies and new technologies.
This has led me to work at the intersection of translation studies and multimodality, but also to work even more closely with film directors and distributors, broadcasters, cinema venues and subtitling companies and freelancers.
